Snake / Dog Bite

Snake bites and dog bites can both be serious injuries that require immediate medical attention. If you have been bitten by a snake or a dog, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible.

If you have been bitten by a snake, try to remain calm and call for medical help immediately. If possible, try to remember what the snake looked like so that you can tell the healthcare provider. Do not try to capture the snake or attempt to treat the bite yourself.

If you have been bitten by a dog, try to control any bleeding by applying direct pressure to the wound. If the bite is severe or if the dog is acting aggressively, call for medical help immediately. If the dog is known to you and is up to date on its vaccinations, it is important to let the healthcare provider know.

Treatment for a snake or dog bite may include:

  1. Cleaning the wound to prevent infection
  2. Administering medication to help prevent infection or to treat any existing infection
  3. Administering a tetanus shot to prevent tetanus, a serious infection that can cause muscle spasms and other serious complications
  4. Administering antivenom, if necessary
  5. Providing pain management to help control any ongoing pain

It is important to follow the treatment plan recommended by the healthcare team in order to make a full recovery. If you have been bitten by a snake or a dog, it is also important to take precautions to prevent future bites, such as avoiding areas where snakes are known to be present or being cautious around unfamiliar dogs.
